There is support for the use of health data to improve safety, innovation and understanding of the healthcare system. This support decreases sharply, however, when data is believed to be used for AI applications, with only three in ten supporting such use. For context from the Ipsos AI monitor, the UK ranks 8 points below the global average in trust in AI analysis of health data[1], and 41% of respondents are uncomfortable with AI-driven treatment recommendations.[2]
This suggests a nuanced perspective. Although many see the value of data-driven innovation, emerging technologies simultaneously raise concerns about ethics, privacy and control. The trust gap suggests that even when initiatives promise societal benefits, perceptions of risk or opacity have potential to undermine confidence.
